L-Lysine HCl is a USP-grade, essential amino acid that helps the body absorb calcium for proper bone growth; aids in anxiety reduction; and assists in the management of cholesterol. L-Lysine is also taken to improve athletic performance, and may be used for preventing and treating cold sores (caused by the virus called herpes simplex labialis). It is taken by mouth or applied directly to the skin for this use. L-Lysine can also be given to cats in order to aid their recovery from herpes symptoms, cold sores, upper respiratory infections (URI) symptoms, and conjunctivitis.
